Premium reductions help people with modest incomes pay for compulsory basic insurance. Eligibility, amounts and application deadlines depend on the canton of residence.
Eligibility and applications
Your canton of residence assesses income and family circumstances. Some cantons include eligible people automatically; others require an application. Contact the responsible office early to ask about deadlines and documents.
Families and payment
For families with low and middle incomes, minimum reductions are 80 percent for children and 50 percent for young adults in education or training. Contributions go directly to the health insurer, which reduces your premium bill.
Funding
The Confederation and cantons jointly fund this support. Additional minimum requirements for cantonal funding apply from 2026. The support you receive still depends on your canton’s rules.
